The House of Representatives has approved a resolution introduced by Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (FL-27) that denounces socialism and highlights its incompatibility with the founding principles of the United States. The measure, H. Con. Res. 58, passed with a vote of 285–98.

The resolution details crimes committed by socialist regimes in countries such as the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela. It argues that these governments have led to famine, repression, death, economic decline, and loss of human freedom.

“Socialism is a lie. It has never delivered justice or equality, only fear, censorship, poverty, and broken nations. I represent thousands of families who fled their homelands because socialist regimes promised paradise and delivered prisons,” said Rep. Salazar. “Today, the House is making it clear: we will not allow socialism’s failed ideology to take root in the United States.”

Chairwoman McClain commented on the passage of the resolution: “The Mamdani socialist agenda is seeping into our country like poison. Republicans won’t let it take root,” she said. “Congresswoman Salazar knows that socialism destroys the freedoms of all who suffer under its thumb. As a Cuban-American and daughter of exiles, she’s experienced the horrific consequences the radical left-wing Democrats keep trying to import. We will never bow to socialism. Republicans and President Trump will defend freedom, liberty, and the American way with everything we have.”

House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill also expressed support for the resolution: “I commend Congresswoman Salazar’s resolution which articulates America’s unwavering stance in denouncing socialism in all forms and rejects its insidious policies from encroaching our nation,” he said. “The contrast between the successful policies of market capitalism and socialism could not be starker, and her resolution reaffirms the United States’ fight against an ideology that has brought suffering and despair to millions across the globe.”

A similar measure was introduced in the Senate by Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who praised the House action: “I am glad to see the House pass our resolution condemning Socialism as the failed ideology it is — it has destroyed countries, crushed economies, and robbed millions of their basic human rights,” said Senator Rick Scott. “Just look at Cuba and Venezuela or talk to any of the thousands of families in my state of Florida who fled those regimes after evil dictators stripped them of every opportunity. Time and time again, socialism has led to the same, inevitable outcomes: misery, poverty, and oppression. It’s despicable to see far-left radicals villainizing capitalism – a system that has helped billions of American achieve their dreams – and try to tear down our country and rebuild it in their woke, radical image through socialist policies. The United States was built on individual freedoms and opportunities, and the right of every individual to pursue the American Dream despite coming from nothing, just like I did. Our resolution is a stark reminder for the far-left: socialism is a failure and Americans will always reject it.”

H. Con. Res. 58 references over 100 million deaths attributed to socialist governments throughout history.

By passing this resolution from Rep. Salazar, lawmakers stated that “the United States rejects socialism’s false promises and stands firmly for liberty, human dignity, and individual rights.”
