The Canadian became just the second golfer in Division II history to win the award
AJ Ewart added another achievement to his historic junior season by becoming just the second division II player in history to win the Golfstat Cup. The Golfstat Cup is a competition across all levels of collegiate golf to determine the top statistical player in the nation.
Ewart won seven tournaments this season, including four straight and six of the last seven he’s played in. His seven victories, the last coming at the NCAA South Regional, are tied for a single-season school record, and he is the fastest Buccaneer to reach 10 career wins. The SSC Golfer of the Year won the Golfstat cup after leading NCAA Division II with a 69.48 scoring average.
“It feels great to win this award” said Ewart, “Its nice to know that the year I had reflected well amongst all divisions of college golf. It proves that no matter what level of college golf you compete at, that good golf takes care of itself. I’m sure I won’t be the last division II player to win this award as there are countless good players in the division now and many more to come. This award is nice to have but there’s one more accomplishment that i think my teammates and I want to have before our time at Barry is over. I’m really Looking forward to this upcoming year and I know we are all ready to work towards our ultimate goal.”
“AJ’s performance this past year was a result of hard work and dedication,” said head coach Jimmy Stobs, “He proved he is one of the best amateur golfers in the world. I couldn’t be more proud to be his coach.”
West Florida’s Chandler Blanchet in 2017 was the only other NCAA Division II player to win the cup. Some of the other notable winners include Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, John Rahm, Collin Morikawa, and Rickie Fowler.
