City Earns National Recognition for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Business2

City of Miami recently issued the following announcement.

The City of Miami has been recognized for excellence in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), which

represents more than 20,000 public finance officials at every level of government. The GFOA made the announcement yesterday (Wednesday), awarding the City the Certificate of

Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2020. The City’s Department of Finance

has consistently earned the annual recognition dating back to 1999.“We welcome this recognition from the GFOA and I applaud our entire Department of Finance team for their diligence and consistently excellent work,” said Miami City Manager Art

Noriega. “While the award speaks for itself, I should add that our team is being recognized for the work they did during the first year of the pandemic, which brought so many new

and unforeseen challenges to the workplace.”The City’s comprehensive annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel from the GFOA to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a

constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. The Certificate of Achievement is the

GFOA’s highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government

and its management professionals.
